Remote Learning For Summer 2020

We ask students to IMAGINE THE IMPOSSIBLE! to address challenges from a more holistic view and conceive of new ways of dealing with complexity in order to facilitate applications for innovation and creation in our contemporary society.

This summer, SciArt Lab + Studio will be taking on a new identity as a global, remote learning program as our top priority is the health and safety of all of our communities during COVID-19. However, we couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity to connect vast distances and time zones through Science, Art and Technology! Our programming will continue to offer rigorous and engaging workshops, lectures and discussions presented online. We will use platforms such as Zoom, Slack and Open Broadcast Software to present and archive the course material.

As adaptable SciArtists, we are leaning into the difficulties presented by online learning and instead considering how these challenges can provide opportunities for learning and connection. Our course will TIME TRAVEL around the world connecting material and discussions in group-based learning. We will also act as global CITIZEN SCIENTISTS, collecting data and material from our remote locations. We will be looking at how content generated in remote locations can produce a wide spectrum of knowledge about our global environment as a whole.

Course material will also cover:

·   Biohacking and at-home labs, DIY microscopy

·   BioArt and Design

·   Coding and Processing

·   Virtual and Augmented Reality

·   Digital Animation

·   Virtual Lab and museum visits

·   Historical retrospectives and surveys of contemporary art and science collaborations

Through this diverse material, students will be exposed to the interface of science and art culture with a focus on multi-disciplinary collaborations. In order to maintain intimate learning, students will be placed in groups with instructors and receive close attention allowing for connection and participation with one another. Students will work on a collaborative final project for the course and these presentations will be live streamed, following a graduation ceremony at the end of the course.
